“She’s not the girl she was when I married her twenty years ago” said a client of his wife. Of course she isn’t; she has had three children, two jobs and started to study for a degree in that time and these are only a few of the many changes that this and many couples have to cope with during a marriage or long term relationship. It is often changes in their lives that create difficulties for couples. All long term relationships are dynamic and therefore troublesome and every couple has difficulties at some time or other. Relationships are intensely private and whilst couples can often cope with their difficulties, sometimes they need a little help or support. Often this can come from family, neighbours, friends, GP’s or health visitors. Sometimes a counsellor can be helpful and a Marriage Care counsellor can be especially helpful because of their particular expertise and the confidential nature of the service. How
do couples benefit from seeing a Marriage Care counsellor? Our counselling provides an opportunity to couples to explore:
“It
got us talking and helped us see issues in a different way. It saved our
marriage”. “It
helped us discuss our problems without arguing”.. “It
helped immensely – we found love again!” Marriage Care welcomes enquiries from those who might want to see a counsellor or are interested in being trained in this ministry. For further information visit www.marriagecare.org.uk or telephone National Office at 020 7371 1341. Many dioceses now organise annual celebrations of marriage and/or encourage parishes to celebrate marriage, particularly during Marriage Week UK.
