This is an initiative by the Bishops' Committee for Marriage and Family Life of England and Wales to clarify who is preparing couples for marriage, how they prepare couples and what couples think about the marriage preparation they've received.

We want to hear from everyone involved in preparing couples for marriage in the Catholic Church in England and Wales whether priests, deacons or lay providers as well as from the couples themselves.

There are three parts to this survey.

Survey of Marriage Preparation Providers

Are you involved in preparing couples for marriage? Please, tell us more about yourself. How did you come to be involved in marriage preparation? What kind of preparation do you offer? If you offer a course what topics do you cover? In which months are you generally busiest? Even if your only involvement is to complete the pre-marriage enquiry papers with couples we'd like to hear from you.

Supply monthly statistics

For each month that you prepare couples or run a course, please would you tell us: How many couples completed your course this month? NB Only one of those involved in each course need complete this survey.

(This survey has two tracks: one for priests and deacons and one for other providers. That’s to help us analyse the results more easily as we assume that all priests and deacons witnessing a couples' marriage are involved in preparing them for the sacrament.)

Survey of Couples: Did you experience a marriage preparation course in 2010?

We really want your feedback on the course you experienced. Why did you undertake a marriage preparation course? Was it easy to find information in advance? Was anything not covered that you would have welcomed help with?

Thank you for helping us learn more about how we prepare couples for marriage.
